Plot Summary:
This is a fun pop Cd with themes of love, coming of age, and teenage life. "Love you Like a Love Song" is her hit song on this CD and it is about liking a guy like the lyrics of a love song. Britney Spears wrote the song on this CD "Whiplash" and Katy Perry wrote the song "That's More Like It" both of which are fast tempo and empower women. This CD has definitely been a change of pace from her previous works and it encouraged her to record her songs as more of a woman and an artist.

Critical Evaluation:
The music is definitely pop dance music that has a catchy tune and will stick with you. I think that the tracks are fun, but they do not have a lot of depth; I can see why young adult audiences would relate to her songs. The basis of the songs relate to love, and friends, but they carry themes of finding and ending love.

Reader’s Annotation:
Selena Gomez is moving from her Disney roots into becoming a young woman in this fresh, new album about love and life.

The Singer:
Selena Marie Gomez (born July 22, 1992) was a child actor and Disney personality before she recorded her first album. She is known for these movies in her early career: "Wizards of Waverly Place", "Another Cinderella Story", and "Princess Protection Program".

Awards:
Teen Choice Awards, 2011: Single and Love Song

Other CD’s by this artist:
“A Year without Rain”
“Roses”

Booktalking Ideas:
Selena is wildly popular with teenagers and in her Disney fan base.
You can relate her to her Disney show and to her boyfriend Justin Bieber.

Genre:
Pop

Interest Age:
14+

Challenge Issues:
Disney Star to Pop Star
I could see a challenge being that she was a popular Disney personality and now she is singing about more mature subjects. I would combat this with the fact that she is not overtly sexual and she sings mainly about love and empowerment.

Why this CD?
This CD is very popular on the radio, and Selena is a major celebrity featured in many of the teen magazines and in music, TV, and movies.
